God created the heavens and the earth. He created everything out of nothing. He is the orchestrator of creativity. So in a nutshell, creativity comes from above. The bible says a man can receive nothing except be given to him from above. Distinguishing Creativity from Innovation: It is important to distinguish between creativity and innovation before we dive into the where creativity can be found. This is because many people misunderstand and confuse creativity with innovation. The difference between creativity and innovation, like I always say, is that creativity is creating something out of nothing and innovation is creating something out of something. Whenever you mention the invention of cars, The name that comes to mind is Henry Ford, but did you know that Henry Ford was not the one who invented cars? The person who invented cars can be known as Karl Benz, the founder of the Mercedes Benz line of vehicles. So why is Henry Ford reputed to be one of the founders of the automobile revolution? Henry Ford had a vision and his vision was simple. He wanted cars to be affordable for the masses. If you study the book of 2nd Chronicles 26 verse 5, the Bible tells us exactly how Uzziah was marvelously helped. The Bible says Uzziah sought God in the days of Zechariah. A man who had the understanding of the visions of God and as long as he sought God, God made him to prosper. So Uzziah was a man of vision. He always aligned his heart with the visions of God. What is the Source of Creativity, Innovation and Invention? Ways You can Tap into It The Source of Creative Ideas, Inventions and Creations There’s a question that many people keep asking without getting satisfactory answers. The question is, “Where does creativity, innovation, and inventions come from? The quest to understand the source of these phenomena has often been clouded by limited perspectives. But in this blog we are going to explore this concept and by the end of this article, you will have a solid answer to the question, What is the source of creativity? Where is creativity from? Where Does Creativity Come From? That an inventor claims to be atheist does not absolve God from being the source of whatever discovery he may have stumbled upon during his research. There has been a long standing confusion about who is the source of all the wonderful, jaw dropping, awe inspiring inventions and innovations of man. This has been due to the fact that some philosophers of old tried to study and understand the vast nature of science with their finite minds. In their quest for knowledge they became puffed up with their little discoveries and came to the erroneous conclusion that there was no God. Paul makes it clear that any man who claims to know it all because of the number of books he thinks he has read and the number of discoveries he has made, is living in a fool’s paradise. So when a man begins to argue against the existence of God because he has allowed himself to be confused by knowledge, it is obvious that he is ignorant. A close study of scripture makes it impossible to confuse any other medium as the source of knowledge apart from God from whom all knowledge flows. …We know that we all possess KNOWLEDGE. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. The man who thinks he KNOWS something does not yet know as he ought to know. 1 Cor 8:1-2 NIV The Apostle Paul in the above verse used different Greek words when talking about knowledge. Understanding this helps to grasp his communication more appropriately. The first word translated as knowledge came from the Greek word “gnosis” and the second word translated “knows” in the verse above comes from another Greek word “eido”. Gnosis is a Greek word which actually means science knowledge. In one of my books titled “How to Enjoy Kingdom Currency”, I explained the meaning of the word gnosis. I made it clear that science is a theoretical and practical knowledge about the natural world in which we live. From understanding the origin of science, we can then pivot that insight into other aspects of creativity that not science driven like art, music and other forms of creative manifestations. So how did science knowledge come about? The knowledge of science was produced by God and wired into the natural environment in a manner that makes it discoverable by scientists who are given to study through observation, investigation and research. As opposed to what some people have thought, science is Godly because its laws and principles were established by God so that man could access them through careful consideration and organized study. Science has its place in God’s kingdom and can be taken advantage of through creativity. That notwithstanding, there are some who allow their knowledge of science to be corrupted by the devil and his agents. That’s when such folks begin to develop all kinds of vain theories and philosophies that do not glorify God. They end up getting puffed up and begin to propound theories that are at cross purposes with the revealed will of God. The word “knows” which follows in verse 2 in the same scripture above is from the Greek word “eido” and it means to have a knowledge that is higher than scientific facts through spiritual perception and awareness. So Paul was actually making it clear that trying to explain and understand divine realities with science knowledge alone without spiritual insight and perception produces more ignorance. The fact that one has read tons of books, made several scientific discoveries and became a doctor of history, philosophy, art or science does not in any way make that person qualified to claim that he knows about the higher levels of knowledge which require illumination to comprehend. That makes them unfit to even say anything about the existence of God because all they know is a unit of science, history, philosophy or whatever it is they have studied. Such folks must never claim to know about things that pertain to the divine because they are completely alien to them. Here’s my story: It was a freezing cold winter in Canada and I had parked my car outside an apartment. The temperature was about -30°C and as such, all cars parked in open parking lots were exposed to the harsh forces of the freezing winter. So, I came outside, dressed up for the weather, ready to go do some grocery shopping, only to discover that I had forgotten to plug the car to the block heater. Now for the benefit of readers who may not know, an engine block heater helps keep your car engine warm while you are not driving it. It is typically used in extreme cold weather conditions to prevent the fluids in your car from freezing up. Now there I was, hoping that my car would start nonetheless but to my profound dismay, the car would not start. This was a very challenging moment for me. I was outside in the extreme cold and I could not feel my hands nor my ears anymore. That was the wrongest time to have car trouble! So I popped the hood and tried to make frantic efforts to start the car but to no avail. I took a cab to the nearest shop and bought some tools for charging a battery but that was not the solution. The car battery was so dead that it needed a boost if it was ever going to start. I felt stuck for a moment until someone who had parked next to me came by after hours of wishing and hoping without knowing what to do. Many people are on this table. They know that they need help boosting their creativity but prefer to wing it. Do not wait till it is probably too late before you commit to learning how to boost your creativity. After hours of trial and error, alone in the thick of the winter, along came a good samaritan. Coincidentally, he was parked beside me and saw me in my lowest moment of frustration, almost freezing from the cold and concerned that my car won’t start. Then he offered a helping hand. He had a device in his car that could boost or jumpstart dead car batteries. He brought it out, plugged it to my cold battery and asked me to turn the ignition. Immediately I did that, the car responded and jerked back to life. To this day, I remain grateful to that man who helped me in that situation. He could have just got in his car and driven off as he did not know me and did not have to help but he did. He gave my car a boost! The essence of that story is to help you see why the creativity of many people needs a boost. Many creatives are stuck in the middle of nowhere and they just need a jumpstart or a boost in order to manifest their creativity. For some, they are stuck in the cold winters of fear, external criticism, self-doubt, unrewarded skill, suppressed talent and time constraints. They have lost that creative spark, that fire that used to burn within them due to the disappointments they have encountered along the path to exploring their creativity. This is the reason many have ideas, skills, talents, knowledge, gifts and experience and are never able to transform them into profitable creations or tangible solutions. How to Make a Career Switch into Tech Creatively With the current buzz of AI tools like ChatGPT, Bard, and other revolutionary trends powered by technology, more and more people have began to consider transitiong or switching careers to tech. I agree that tech is not for everyone but if you have an interest, there is no harm in exploring it in tech. So, have you ever desired to make a career switch into tech? These discoveries have shaped our lives in ways we couldn’t have imagined just a decade ago. This fusion has created a dynamic and diverse landscape in the tech industry, welcoming individuals from all walks of life to embark on a career switch into this exciting field. If you’re someone with a creative background, wondering how to bridge the gap and transition into tech, this blog is your guide to making a successful leap. Recognize Your Transferable Skills – This is Where Creativity Meets Technology First and foremost, realize that your creative skills are far from irrelevant in the tech sector. Problem-solving, critical thinking, communication, and the ability to think outside the box are all highly valued skills in tech roles. These skills, often honed in creative pursuits, are directly applicable to roles such as user experience (UX) design, graphic design, content creation, and even software development. The emergence of Digital revolution has made it possible to easily reinvent yourself and experience true adventure while deploying your creative problem solving skills. This is something that makes a career switch into technology worth it. For me, that was what spurred my interest in software development. Being a Chemical Engineer by the traditional education system, I discovered that I wanted more from my life than what that field offered. I had so many ideas, gifts and skills that I wanted to explore the world with. So even before I had any interest in software development, I started out sharpening them. The first skill sets I honed among others, were my creative writing skills, presentation, negotiation, marketing, personal branding and my public speaking skills. Use Your Current Skills to Fill the Gaps Creatively Now you have identified the existing skills that made you thrive in you previous career. You probably recognized the gifts that were suppressed before. What next? Well, your next step should be to figure out how that can compensate for what you lack in the tech field you intend to venture into. When I discovered that I could further reinvent myself and harness my creativity by venturing into software development, it dawned on me that I had transferable skills that could help me succeed in my journey as a programmer. One of the transferable skills was that I spend 10 hours daily writing books, and whoever read my books always fell in love with my flow of thought, use of literature, content and presentation. You may not already be doing 10 hours on your laptop writing a book. But if you can spend at least 3 hours watching a movie or a football match, it means you have the patience required to venture into a technology related field. This is pretty much because your job would require that quality from you if you finally make the switch into Information Technology. Figure out a skill or trait unique to your personality and try to find ways that can help you compensate for what you may lack as you transition. 3. Embrace Lifelong Learning Tech is an ever-evolving field, and its fast-paced nature means that continuous learning is crucial. But don’t be daunted! Your background in creativity positions you well for this challenge. Just as artists and writers refine their craft, you can approach learning to code, mastering new software, or understanding complex algorithms as a form of creative expression. There’s beauty in creating functional and elegant solutions through code, just as there is in crafting a beautiful painting or a compelling story. I took online courses on educational platforms like Udemy, LinkedIn Learning and PluralSight to hone my technical skills. You may want to take online courses, bootcamps or classes. Try to go with what works for you and spend less time with analysis paralysis. 4. Leverage Your Unique Perspective Your creative background gives you a unique lens through which you can approach tech problems. Creatives often have a knack for empathizing with users, understanding their needs, and crafting experiences that resonate. This perspective can be invaluable in roles like UX/UI design, where the ability to marry aesthetics with functionality is paramount. The fact that you come from a different background from tech is not a disadvantage. It is a leverage if you know how to use it because it makes you divergent.
